Swipe and Roll

Theme of the Game

Swipe and Roll by NetEnt feels like the 50s exploded all over the reels and if we could use only one sentence to describe the game, it would be “blast from the past” – nothing seems to be capturing the spirit of this 5-reel and 20-payline slot as fully as this catchphrase.

The intro screen finds a player outside of a traditional 50s diner; by selecting the continue button you will be taken inside and it will feel like coming out of a time machine and stepping into your parents’ past.

One of the best features of the slot is the background music, with the jukebox blasting with the familiar sounds of the cold war era. Bells and Diamonds are the special symbols, followed by Melons, Oranges, and Plums as the higher-value icons. Card symbols A, K, and Q come at the lowest payout rate.

Developer

NetEnt is an award-winning Swedish company founded in 1996, with more than 1000 employees across the globe, over 200 partnering operators and hundreds of original releases, including their highly competitive Live Dealer software.

After launching their VR slot in 2017, the company continues to evolve and conquer new markets – in August 2018, NetEnt’s games became available in Ocean Resort casino in New Jersey, just weeks after their releases were officially launched in Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City casino.

Arguably, progressive slots are the most competitive releases out of all NetEnt’s games, thanks to some of the highest payouts in the industry. In July 2018, three progressive jackpot hits have been recorded on three different NetEnt’s slots: Hall of Gods, Arabian Nights, and Mega Fortune Dreams.

How to Play It

Swipe and Roll is played on 5 reels and 20 paylines, with 10 betting levels and coin value ranging from $0.01 to $0.50. The highest bet per spin is $200, and the amount can be adjusted manually or by using the Max Bet button, which will maximise the level without interfering with the coin size.

Auto Play button is placed to the left and the players can start up to 1000 Auto Spins with an option to predetermine the factors that will halt the feature. The factors that can be used to stop Auto spins are the bonus feature activation, hitting a winning combination, or reaching a certain balance level. The payout in the base game is hit when at least 3 icons form a combination on the connecting reels from left to right.

Special Features

Swipe and Roll slot has two Wild Diamond icons, a regular one, and the x3 Multiplier Wild, both acting as substitutes for all other icons and triggering the Wild Re-spins feature. Once the Re-spins are triggered, the Wilds will remain locked on their positions.

Coin Wheel features can be activated during the base game and every spin of the wheel can result in additional bonus games or cash prizes. Another way to activate the bonus game is to land three Scatter Bell icons – when that happens, 3 Wheels will appear on the screen, spinning one after another to unlock extra payouts.

Maximum Payouts

With 96.35% RTP and medium to high volatility, Swipe & Roll produces the best results when the bets are pressed, potentially generating up to 1,620,000 coins, which seems just about right when one considers the x3 Wild multiplier (which can multiply itself and increase the payout by x27) and the cash prize potential. Base game payouts are decent as well, especially if you land the Watermelon icon that pays 300 coins for a combination of 5.

Summary

Definitely not a release that one would normally expect from NetEnt as they usually go for more complex themes, however, stepping into the unknown worked out well for the developer and they managed to produce a slot with excellent payout potential and volatility that leans towards medium, which will be highly appreciated by a lot of players.

One more thing that deserves to be mentioned is the visual aspect of the game – more often than not, designers who try to revive the retro spirit of a certain era are known to fall in a trap of being overly campish, to the point of almost making a caricature. This is definitely not the case with Swipe and Roll, and NetEnt managed to hit just the right cord.
