Find the antidotes to win big in Genesis’ Attack of the Zombies
The popularity of TV shows such as AMC’s “The Walking Dead” proves that there’s still a lot of life in George A. Romero’s apocalyptic vision of a dystopian future inhabited by the living dead!
It’s not hard to imagine that a slot based on this premise will be popular too, so it’s probably fair to say that Genesis Gaming will be on to a winner with their new Attack of the Zombiesslot machine.
The animation is fantastically smooth, but the symbols themselves could perhaps look a little better – Attack of the Zombies doesn’t look anything like as “dark” as you might expect from what is effectively a horror themed game.
Perhaps that is just my own personal preference, though, and some players may enjoy the more light-hearted look and feel that Genesis Gaming has chosen for this machine.
What We Love
Recent advances in technology have allowed slot providers to use very high-resolution graphics and high frame rates in their latest releases. Genesis Gaming is using all of the best modern techniques in games such as Attack of the Zombies, and the end result really does look and feel fantastic.
The animation is the smoothest I have seen in any online slot machine, and the user interface is extremely responsive. Reliability seems excellent too – whilst many Microgaming and NetEnt slots will boot you out occasionally with random error messages, I experienced no such issues whilst playing this game.
The “unlimited free spins” bonus mode is a great feature too. I triggered around twenty features whilst writing this review, receiving between 11 and 47 free spins from each of them. Each time an antidote symbol lands on the third reel, one of the high paying character symbols is converted into an additional wild.
After you have collected three of the four antidotes the reels are literally filled with wild symbols, and if you can manage a decent number of spins before the fourth antidote arrives you have a great chance of hitting a large number of five of a kind wild combinations.
You do need a lot of luck for things to play out this way, but it’s a unique feature that can be very exciting and definitely has the potential for some huge wins.
What We Do Not Like
The paytable is very poor, and there is almost no chance of hitting a decent sized win of any kind during the base game. Many slots concentrate a large portion of their RTP in their bonus mode, but the situation is particularly extreme in Attack of the Zombies.
It can be very frustrating playing this game for a long time trying to reach that specific part of the bonus mode where big wins are possible, but then you only get a single spin before the fourth antidote arrives and the process starts all over again.
It would have been nice if you got more than a single extra spin after the final antidote drops on screen. A multiplier during the free spins or some stacked wilds during the base game would have dramatically improved the longevity of this slot.
Attack of the Zombies has some interesting ideas, and will definitely appeal to those who enjoy low to medium variance games. It isn’t an outstanding release by any means, and I expect that many players will end up trying it out once or twice and then forgetting about it.
Nevertheless, it is worth giving it that try to see if you enjoy it and if it suits your style of play, and Genesis Gaming could surely come up with an excellent sequel with just a little more effort and imagination – I truly hope we’ll see an improved Attack of the Zombies 2 at some point in the future!
